New book delivers massive pictorial evidence of Jewish involvement in the slave trade and its aftermath

A BOOK REVIEW

(FinalCall.com) - There is no longer any debate. It has been conclusively shown that the Jewish people held a key role in the trans-Atlantic slave trade and the development of an Apartheid society in the United States of America.

Different from the heavily footnoted previous publications “The Secret Relationship Between Blacks and Jews” Volumes One and Two, the Historical Research Department of the Nation of Islam has released 144 pages containing 283 Jewish slave sale ads reproduced from American newspapers across the country. “Jews Selling Blacks” displays posted bills, classified ads and flyers showing that Jews bought and sold whole plantations and marketed slaves ranging in age from infants to the elderly. Additionally, Jewish merchants arranged bank financing and various other payment options which in essence amounted to lay-away terms for their human cargo and subsequently enslaved labor force.

Jewish apologists often advance the discredited notion that according to the population, only a “modest” number of Jewish people owned slaves. Compared to what? Census figures do not tell the entire story. Certainly one individual, or family—especially possessing great wealth—can be responsible for large amounts of evil.

This is evident in places such as slave-era South Carolina. A foundation of mercantilism and the slave trade, it was the first state to declare its secession, leading to the formation of the Confederate States of America, which led to the Civil War. In the book, readers are shown that before New York became the population center for American Jews, during the slave era, Charleston, South Carolina was the center of Jewish population and their mercantile exploits.

For example, in December of 1839, Maurice Barnett, a slave dealer in Baton Rouge, Louisiana offered a 26-year-old slave named Osborn for sale. Osborn was described as “a mulatto, good carriage driver and waiter, active and handy at anything he is put to.” His wife Lucinda, 22, was also offered for sale. She was described as “very intelligent, food cook, washer and ironer.” Perhaps the most disconcerting portion of the advertisement was that the children, Commodore, age 6, Josephine, age 4, Henry “about 2 years of age” and Osborn Jr. “about 1 year of age” were also for sale. (p. 9) Keep in mind, many times, Black families would be torn apart and sold to different plantation owners. Quite often, husbands were split up from their wives, mothers separated from their children and children from their siblings.

An advertisement in the June 24, 1805 Charleston City Gazette contained an advertisement by Cohen & Moses offering “Twenty Prime AFRICAN SLAVES. Conditions, cash on delivery.” (p.11) In fact, several pages are devoted to slave advertisements by Cohen & Moses spanning several years. Another Jewish auctioneer, Jacob Cohen, a prominent slave dealer who ran Jacob Cohen and Co., also advertised extensively. Later, the company, Jacob Cohen & Son, according to the numerous advertisements that are a part of historical record, continued this legacy of genocidal human trafficking amassing great wealth at that time. Could the modern day Cohen & Co., the Philadelphia-based firm that according to a July 30, 2010 Bloomberg article “built itself into the second-largest manager of collateralized debt obligations” be connected in some way to the similarly named trading companies flourishing in the antebellum south?

An interesting bit of information shows that slave broker and auctioneer Thomas W. Mordecai, of Charleston was a founding member of the Reform Society of Israelites, the first Jewish reform movement in the United States. He later became a prominent religious and media official. (p. 80)

The demeaning language used in many of the slave sale advertisements, often by well-respected religious pillars of the Jewish community, such as Isaiah Isaacs, a slave owner of Richmond, Virginia, who founded Congregation Beth Shalome (p.112) demonstrate blatant disregard for the humanity of their Black slaves, who were sold alongside farm animals, furniture, liquor and often as “add-on” items when land ownership was transferred.

The Jewish people have established themselves as the quintessential and prototypical merchant class in American society. Specifically related to slavery, their dominance led the Jewish Encyclopedia to note, “The cotton-plantations in many parts of the South were wholly in the hands of Jews, and as a consequence, slavery found its advocates among them.”

They were so thoroughly integrated in the cultural realities of the racially segregated South that in 1813, Jewish constable Moses Levy reminded residents of the ordinance that required “All negroes or other Slaves working out on hire,” to wear a badge “conspicuously about their persons” comparable to the WWII Nazi-era yellow star that became symbolic of the dissolution of Jews in Germany over a century later. (p.133)

It was not until the revelation of the significant involvement of the Jews that their scholars (and their impish Black lackeys and mouthpieces) sought to highlight the actions of others (i.e., African chiefs, Arab traders, so-called “free” Blacks etc.) in an attempt to change the focus of the discussion and documented research.

It is strange that prior to the Nation of Islam's research, those who had studied history and this critical aspect of the impact of the trans-Atlantic slave trade on American society were perfectly content allowing the blame to fall squarely on the shoulders of the White Anglo Saxon Protestants in the South.

Those who continue to be mystified by motive generated mythology and revisionist history are either intellectually incurious or purposefully lazy and have not properly utilized the meticulously crafted documentation provided by the Historical Research Department.

As stated earlier, there is no longer any debate. The evidence is overwhelming. The lies have been deconstructed.

This book is an important addition to any library, and in years to come, will be considered one of several publications responsible for yet another paradigm shift in the study of American history thus leading to the proper contextualization and understanding of the trans-Atlantic slave trade.

There are many members of the American Jewish community and even its political establishment whom I believe would be deeply moved by Volume Two of “The Secret Relationship Between Blacks and Jews,” especially if they take the time to read its detailed footnotes, which cite eminent scholars, historians, and economists.

“From Los Angeles' early years, Jews dominated the merchant class. They came to the pueblo and immediately opened dry-goods stores, stationery stores, and blacksmith shops – anything that might flourish in a slow-moving frontier economy … Since Los Angeles was so isolated, most of these merchants had partners in either San Francisco or New York, men who could select and ship new merchandise for the stores. Frequently, these were family members, for early Jewish settlers relied on extended kinship networks to keep down their costs.” —“Towers of Gold: How One Jewish Immigrant Named Isaias Hellman Created California “ by Frances Dinkelspiel

The member of the American Jewish Community with whom I have had the deepest and most respectful public dialogue regarding Black-Jewish relations is Mr. Steven Silbiger, author of “The Ten-Day MBA” (which sold over 250,000 copies) and “The Jewish Phenomenon.” Mr. Silbiger is a highly intelligent man and both of his books are very significant in my opinion.

In 2003, Mr. Silbiger and I met outside of Philadelphia where I conducted a several-hour long interview, which eventually was published at BlackElectorate.com. The reaction I received to the interview—by both Blacks and non-Blacks was phenomenal and Mr. Silbiger would later thank me for helping to popularize his book, “The Jewish Phenomenon.”

Shortly after the release of the revised edition of “The Jewish Phenomenon,” In December of 2009, we spoke again, in a wide-ranging interview on my radio program. In that discussion, Mr. Silbiger repeated something that we discussed previously—that the most enthusiastic reaction he has received, in a positive sense, to his book, has come from the Black community and that the most resistance to “The Jewish Phenomenon” came from within the Jewish community.

One of the things Mr. Silbiger told me in reference to this—in 2003—was that National Public Radio (NPR) canceled a scheduled show featuring Mr. Silbiger and Black conservative intellectual John McWhorter out of fear that a discussion involving “The Jewish Phenomenon” would alienate NPR's numerous Jewish benefactors.

Here is part of the exchange that Mr. Silbiger and I had regarding this topic back then:

“Cedric Muhammad: You were telling me some interesting anecdotes that we were discussing over lunch regarding how your book, really, for lack of a better description, hasn't gotten the best reception from journalists, media outlets and opinion leaders in the Jewish community. Could you elaborate more on the nature of this—the reasons for it as you were telling me earlier?

Steven Silbiger: Sure, the people who have read the book enjoy the book, it is very useful but within the media there has been an almost silence about the book because they would rather the book not create any discussion. A lot of the book reviewers and people in the main press don't want to cover the book because the subject of Jewish success in America is more controversial than anything else. Because the idea is that if you publicize Jewish success and the reasons for it, then it will bring additional anti-Semitism to the Jewish community. I have spoken to Jewish groups, B'nai B'rith, Haddasah—many Jewish groups, and the book has been universally well-received when presented, but book reviewers and other opinion leaders would rather not deal with the subject because their downside is much greater than the upside for covering the book. I wouldn't mind negative reviews. But they'd rather not review it at all because of how powerful the message is in this book ...”

This exchange implies much about the role that the media plays in determining the quality of the dialogue over Black-Jewish relations.

On the back cover of the revised version of the book one sees:

“Revealing Facts and Statistics behind The Jewish Phenomenon

• Jews make up only 2 percent of the total U.S. population, yet 45 percent of the top 40 of the Forbes 400 richest Americans are Jewish.

• One-third of American multimillionaires are Jewish.

• The percentage of Jewish households with income greater than $50,000 is double that of non-Jews.

• 20 percent of professors at leading universities are Jewish.

• 40 percent of partners in the leading New York and Washington, D.C., law firms are Jewish.

• 25 percent of all American Nobel Prize winners are Jewish.”

One of the very few things I disagree with contained within Mr. Silbiger's book is his description of the causes for what he calls a ‘rift' in Black-Jewish relations.

In a section headlined, ‘AFRICAN AMERICANS AND THE JEWS,' he writes: “The relationship between the American Jews and the African-American community has been a close but strained one. At the beginning of the twentieth century the bonds were stronger, but the rise of Muslim religious leaders in the African-American community in the 1950s began to widen the rift between them. Some of these African-American Muslims have mistakenly used Jews as scapegoats for their own lack of progress. Although there were a few Jewish slave owners in the South, Jews were not large players in the slave trade.”

To support the last sentence of this statement, Mr. Silbiger has a footnote that directs one to the book, “Jews, Slaves and the Slave Trade” by Eli Farber.

A few corrections and counter-arguments can be easily made in light of the just published and meticulously researched “The Secret Relationship Between Blacks and Jews, Volume Two: How Jews Gained Control Of The Black American Economy.”

First, the statement, “Jews were not large players in the slave trade,” is easily overcome by the avalanche of detailed history, from Jewish archives, regarding the settlement of Brazil, Surinam, Curacao, Jamaica and Barbados in the Caribbean; as well as the history of the slave holders and slave traders in American cities like Charleston, South Carolina and Newport, Rhode Island. In addition statements centered upon the ‘slave trade,' are potentially misleading as they ignore or redirect attention from the central role that members of the Jewish community played in supporting the plantation economy as merchants; and as cotton factors and crop lien holders in the sharecropping era.

Second, Volume Two provides overwhelming evidence that in the American South it was suffering Blacks who were used by certain members of the Jewish community as both ‘scapegoat' or ‘buffer' to facilitate their own assimilation or integration into White Gentile society.

As quoted in Volume Two, Irving Howe, author of the most popular book on American Jewish history, “World Of Our Fathers” writes, “For decades American blacks had served …as a kind of buffer for American Jews. So long as native hatreds were taken out primarily on blacks, they were less likely to be taken out on Jews.” Also from Volume Two we read the words of Rabbi Bertram W. Korn, “The Negroes acted as an escape-valve in Southern society. The Jews gained in status and security from the very presence of this large mass of defenseless victims who were compelled to absorb all of the prejudices which might otherwise have been expressed more frequently in anti-Jewish sentiment …”

Could it be that it is quotes like these—from respected Jewish opinion leaders and not Black ‘anti-Semitism'—which members of the Jewish Political Establishment truly fear?

Third, Mr. Silbiger's statement, “the rise of Muslim religious leaders in the African-American community in the 1950s began to widen the rift,” in an important sense cannot be proven true in light of certain statements from establishment Jewish leaders of that era. This excerpt from the Preface of Volume Two makes that clear. Related to an unsubstantiated claim in 1959 by Time Magazine that the Nation of Islam was anti-Semitic we read:

In response to the 1959 Time Magazine article, the head of the Anti-Defamation League of B'nai B'rith, Arnold Forster, admitted in a secret memo that “Time magazine notwithstanding, we have no documentable evidence of anti-Semitism on the part of the Temples of Islam movement or Elijah Muhammad.” He affirmed that they are “not anti-Jewish per se.” Yet Jewish organizations publicly continued to label the NOI as ‘anti-Semitic.' In 1960, the chairman of the American Jewish Congress, Nathan Edelstein, wrote that “We doubt whether the bulk of its followers are presently committed to anti-Semitism.”

In the footnotes of Volume Two's Preface the sources for the above information are given to substantiate what is written.

In Brother Jabril Muhammad's book “This Is The One” first published in the early 1970s we read:

“Back in 1959, the white press, as if on signal, launched a furious attack on Messenger Muhammad and The Nation of Islam, following the dishonest portrayal of us entitled: ‘The Hate that Hate Produced.' Through such publications as Time, U.S. News and World Report, Newsweek, The Reporter, Esquire, Confidential, True, Saga, and a host of other magazines and newspapers; white America spewed forth a flood of articles, both superficial, spurious and poisonous in nature. A few among them did a creditable job, as far as they went. But the bulk of what was written was insidious and rotten to the core. But it did not hurt us.

There is plenty evidence to show that much of the material was deliberately misleading. There are instances when reporters found interpolations in the text to their stories that were altered, here and there, by their ‘bosses' so as to misrepresent their findings of the Messenger and his followers.”

Part of the ‘plenty evidence' referred to in “This Is The One” was revealed in 1996 with the publication of “In The Name of Elijah Muhammad: Louis Farrakhan And The Nation of Islam.” In it author Mattias Gardell writes:

In 1959, the FBI launched a large-scale media campaign. In this first phase, the FBI briefed selected journalists who willingly channeled the view of the bureau to the American public. The special agent in charge (SAC) in Chicago, wrote: “Originally the program was centered around espousing to the public, both white and black, on a nationwide basis the abhorrent aspects of the organization and its racist, hate type teachings. This was done in such leading magazines as Time, U.S. News and World Report, Saturday Evening Post etc. … as well as through newspapers.”

The ADL and the FBI have a very intimate relationship. Part of it involves the ADL both training and briefing the FBI on such topics as what it calls ‘radical Islam.' One such training session was conducted on May 18, 2010. How far back has such training gone, and is the ADL the fountain from which the lie that the Nation of Islam is ‘Anti-Semitic' (even though the ADL privately admits it is not true) comes?

There are many members of the American Jewish community and even its political establishment whom I believe would be deeply moved by Volume Two of “The Secret Relationship Between Blacks and Jews,” especially if they take the time to read its detailed footnotes, which cite eminent scholars, historians, and economists.

I believe these individuals—after such a reading—would sense something very spiritually wrong in the reaction the ADL had to the powerful letter that was written to its President, Mr. Abraham Foxman, by the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan.

The past and current efforts of some in the Jewish community to silence or distort discussions regarding the sources of its wealth are hurting, not helping Black-Jewish relations.

The sooner the ‘intelligent and sensible' dialogue which Minister Farrakhan describes begins, the sooner a greater appreciation and admiration for the beautiful side of Jewish kinship-based economics can emerge—enlightening and inspiring not only Black Americans, but an entire world.

In closing, Steven Silbiger has personally told me of his admiration for the leader of the UNIA, the Honorable Marcus Garvey.

While Steven Silbiger expresses high regard for Marcus Garvey, this great leader from Jamaica has also been labeled as ‘anti-Semitic.'

However, in “The Jewish Phenomenon” we read, “Garvey denounced discrimination against the Jews and ascribed it to others' jealousy of Jewish economic success. At the same time, emphasizing his self-empowerment theme, he cautioned against relying on Jews, stating that the very racial solidarity he admired made Jews loyal only to themselves.”

Many have been wrongfully and viciously smeared as alleged “anti-Semites” because they refuse to discriminate in their opposition to racism, including but not limited to, their opposition to political Zionist racism. The vast majority of Jews initially opposed political Zionism due to its expressed racism. Their leaders were smeared. After the founding of Israel, debate was largely stifled.
Prof. Tony Martin was attacked when he added the book The Secret Relationship Between Blacks and Jews597 among his offerings in the school bookstore at the university at which he taught. In his book, The Jewish Onslaught: Despatches from the Wellesley Battlefront, Majority Press, Dover, Massachusetts, (1993); Prof. Martin details the organized attacks he faced when exposing Jewish involvement in the slave trade and Jewish racism towards blacks.

Prof. Martin exposits upon the fact that the Hamitic myth, the “curse of Ham”, which condemns Blacks to perpetual slavery and degrades the stereotypical phenotype of a black person or “Canaanite”, stems from the story of Noah and his son Ham in the Old Testament (Genesis 9:20-27); and from the racist Talmudic interpretations of this story; as well as their misuse to justify the injustice and inhumanity of Black slavery, which was a profitable industry for Jews, especially the trade to Brazil, where the Jews also profited from agriculture—in particular sugar cane.598

Harold Brackman wrote of the evolution of the Hamitic myth in his PhD dissertation in 1977,

“The opening centuries of the Christian era constituted an interregnum in the native African record of historical achievement separating Cush’s era of ancient prominence from the medieval accomplishments of the great Negro states of the Sudan. These same centuries formed the seedbed of rabbinic Judaism. And this fateful coincidence goes tar toward explaining why they also formed such fertile soil for the growth of Jewish lore demeaning the Negro. The most famous of these anti-Negro legends cluster about Ham and Noah’s cursing of Canaan [***] There is no denying that the Babylonian Talmud was the first source to read a Negrophobic content into the episode by stressing Canaan’s fraternal connections with Cush [***] The Talmudic glosses of the episode added the stigma of blackness to the fate of enslavement that Noah predicted for Ham’s progeny [***] According to it, Ham is told by his outraged father [Noah] that, because you have abused me in the darkness of the night,

YOUR CHILDREN SHALL BE BORN BLACK AND UGLY;

because you have twisted your head to cause me embarrassment,

THEY SHALL HAVE KINKY HAIR AND RED EYES;

BECAUSE YOUR LIPS JESTED AT MY EXPOSURE, THEIRS SHALL SWELL;

and because you neglected my nakedness,

they shall go naked[.]”599

The racist Talmud states in Sanhedrin 70a,

“‘Ubar the Galilean gave the following exposition: The letter waw [and]4 occurs thirteen times in the passage dealing with wine: And Noah began to be an husbandman, and he planted a vineyard: And he drank of the wine and was drunken; and he was uncovered within his tent. And Ham the father of Canaan, saw the nakedness of his father, and told his two brethren without. And Shem and Japheth took a garment, and laid it upon their shoulders, and went backward and covered the nakedness of their father, and their faces were backward, and they saw not their father’s nakedness. And Noah awoke from his wine, and knew what his younger son had done unto him.5 [With respect to the last verse] Rab and Samuel [differ,] one maintaining that he castrated him, whilst the other says that he sexually abused him. He who maintains that he castrated him, [reasons thus;] Since he cursed him by his fourth son,6 he must have injured him with respect to a fourth son.7 But he who says that he sexually abused him, draws an analogy between ‘and he

saw’ written twice. Here it is written, And Ham the father of Canaan saw the nakedness of his father; whilst elsewhere it is written, And when Shechem the son of Hamor saw her [he took her and lay with her and defiled here].8 Now, on the view that he emasculated him, it is right that he cursed him by his fourth son; but on the view that he abused him, why did he curse his fourth son: he should have cursed him himself?—Both indignities were perpetrated.1”600

The Talmud states in Sanhedrin 108b,

“Our Rabbis taught: Three copulated in the ark, and they were all punished—the dog, the raven, and Ham. The dog was doomed to be tied, the raven expectorates [his seed into his mates mouth], and Ham was smitten in his skin. [Footnote: I.e., from him descended Cush (the negro) who is black- skinned.]”601

The racist Midrash Rabbah (Genesis 36:7) states,
“7. AND NOAH AWOKE FROM HIS WINE (IX, 24): he was sobered from his wine.
AND KNEW WHAT HIS YOUNGEST SON HAD DONE UNTO HIM. Here it means, his worthless son, as you read, Because the brazen altar that was before the Lord was too little to receive the burnt-offering, etc. (I Kings VIII, 64).1
AND HE SAID: CURSED BE CANAAN (IX, 25): Ham sinned and Canaan is cursed! R. Judah and R. Nehemiah disagreed. R. Judah said: Since it is written, And God blessed Noah and his sons (Gen. IX, 1), while there cannot be a curse where a blessing has been given, consequently, HE SAID: CURSED BE CANAAN. R. Nehemiah explained: It was Canaan who saw it [in the first place] and informed them, therefore the curse is attached to him who did wrong.
R. Berekiah said: Noah grieved very much in the Ark that he had no young son to wait on him, and declared, ‘ When I go out I will beget a young son to do this for me.’ But when Ham acted thus to him, he exclaimed, ‘ You have prevented me from begetting a young son to serve me,2 therefore that man [your son] will be a servant to his brethren!’ R. Huna said in R. Joseph’s name: [Noah declared], ‘You have prevented me from begetting a fourth son, therefore I curse your fourth son.’3 R. Huna also said in R. Joseph’s name: You have prevented me from doing something in the dark [sc. cohabitation],

therefore your seed will be ugly and dark-skinned. R. Hiyya said: Ham and the dog copulated in the Ark, therefore Ham came forth black-skinned while the dog publicly exposes its copulation.

R. Levi said: This may be compared to one who minted his own coinage4 in the very palace of the king, whereupon the king ordered:

I decree that his effigy be defaced and his coinage cancelled. Similarly, Ham and the dog copulated in the Ark and were punished.

“Now I shall interpret to you this parable

who slew his brother Abel. Racist Jews claimed that the dark skin of Blacks was the “mark of Cain” (Genesis 4:10-12, 15), and the “curse of Ham”.

The Zohar states,
“Of the three sons of Noah that went forth from the ark, Shem, Ham, and Japheth, Shem is symbolic of the right side, Ham of the left side, whilst Japheth represents the ‘purple’, which is a mixture of the two. AND HAM WAS THE FATHER OF CANAAN.

Ham represents the refuse and dross of the gold, the stirring and rousing of the unclean spirit of the ancient serpent. It is for that reason that he is designated the ‘father of Canaan’, namely, of Canaan who brought curses on the world, of Canaan who was cursed, of Canaan who darkened the faces of mankind.

For this reason, too, Ham is given a special mention in the words, ‘Ham, the father of Canaan’, that is, the notorious world-darkener, whereas we are not told that Shem was the father of such-a- one, or that Japheth was the father of such-a-one. No sooner is Ham mentioned, than he is pointed to as the father of Canaan. Hence when Abraham came on the scene, it is written, ‘And Abraham passed through the land’ (Gen. xii, 6), for this was before the establishment of the patriarchs and before the seed of Israel existed in the world, so that the land could not yet be designated by this honoured and holy name. Observe that when Israel were virtuous the land was called by their name, the Land of Israel; but when they were not worthy it was called by another name, to wit, the Land of Canaan. Hence it is written: AND HE SAID, CURSED BE CANAAN, A SERVANT OF SERVANTS SHALL HE BE UNTO HIS BRETHREN, for the reason that he brought curses on the world, in the same way as the serpent, against whom was pronounced the doom, ‘Cursed art thou among all cattle’ (Gen. The stigmata of the “mark of Cain”, which Jewish racists placed on Blacks, had a lasting destructive effect and was used to justify slavery in the Americas and anti- miscegenation laws.

A black slave named Phillis Wheatley published a poem in 1773, which evinces the racist accusation that blacks bear the mark of Cain,

Congressman Paul Findley stated, among his many revealing remarks about Zionist influence,
